Students will be taught a course which combines the study of English and English Literature. They will be entered for Edexcel
IGCSE courses in both English Language and English Literature. These are both assessed by final examination at the end of year 11. Unlike conventional GCSEs, IGCSE English Language is assessed partly (10%) through speaking and listening performance; apart
from this there is no coursework in either subject. English Language involves the study of non-fiction writing, including some published in the Edexcel Anthology for this course and a selection of literary writing; it tests reading and writing skills in different
tasks. English Literature involves the study of a prose text, a drama text (tested in a “closed text” examination - texts are not allowed), poetry from the Edexcel Anthology and previously unseen passages of poetry or prose.
